Rodless Cylinder Repair

Rodless cylinders used to lift sugar into the mixing process were old, worn and leaking heavily.  There were two fitted to one fixture and both needed a full overhaul.  Both were also covered in grease and sugar – a very ‘sticky’ situation, indeed.  Downtime was also at a premium as the plant produced 5 days a week, every week.  

Airlane agreed to carry out the overhaul of both cylinders over a weekend.  It was agreed that the customer would remove the cylinders on a Friday lunchtime and transport them to our workshops on the afternoon.  We had already received the service kits into stock and were ready to carry out the repairs.  Both cylinders were about 3m long.  They were fully stripped down, cleaned thoroughly and inspected for any signs of damage.  Both were then rebuilt using genuine Origa service kits and fully tested for both leaks and operation.                               

The customer collected the cylinders on the Monday morning and refitted without issue.  The leak reduction alone would pay for the servicing costs in no time.  The production downtime was kept to a minimum.
