Safety in the Workplace
Pneumatic safety in the workplace is becoming increasingly important for machine manufacturers. Therefore, when designing, assembling and using pneumatic systems it is paramount that attention to safety and safe operating systems is undertaken.
The Machinery Directive and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) currently places huge emphasis on safety in the workplace. For more information about The Machinery Directive and it’s regulations visit https://www.conformance.co.uk/adirectives/doku.php?id=machinery
In order to ensure conformity of the machine, the manufacturer must verify that it meets the safety requirements listed in the directive and guarantee compliance with the harmonised standards published in the European Union’s Official Journal and relating to the product in question.
Pneumatic Products for Safe Systems
Generally, pneumatic components are not designed as safety components. Therefore, they are not directly covered under legislative scope. Pneumatic components however, are used frequently to satisfy safety related functions.
Our products are here to help machine designers and general pneumatics users, when correctly applied, to create safe pneumatic systems. Some examples of these products are listed below.
Monitored Dump Valves
These give positive feedback to ensure that the dump valve has operated correctly in critical applications. Our monitored dump valve has a positively driven switch mechanically linked to the valve poppet. This enables switch, valve or cable faults to be detected.
Two Hand Safety Start Valves
These valves ensure that operators must use both hands to safely operate a machine. Used to prevent accidental operation and possible entrapment injuries. The two hand safety valve generates an output signal only if two synchronised pneumatic input signals are received. If one input signal is interrupted the output signal is interrupted as well.
Mechanical Piston Rod Lock – Passive
Prevents accidental or leak-related movement of pistons from vertically mounted cylinders by removing the pilot signal (passive) from the rod lock.

The Benefits of Pneumatic Safety in Your Business.
Here at Airlane we have created a brand new Health and Safety survey, just introduced in 2018. This survey is designed help you outline any issues within your machinery, and identify ways to rectify these money-wasting problems.
Airlane will:
»Carry Out an In Depth Air Supply and Usage Survey
»Carry Out an In Depth Machine/Line Check
»Produce a Fully Detailed Report Identifying any Issues or Leaks along with Recommendations for their Repair
»Make Tailored Levels of Support Available to Address any Issues Found
We work throughout the North East of England and are based in Sunderland.
