Bad Decisions

As I reflect upon Airlane’s 14th year, I look upon the last 12 months or so and wonder ‘what might have been.’

About 14 months ago we were approached, after a chance conversation, about making the biggest single investment we’d ever made at Airlane. This would, we hoped, secure our future and help us grow the company in a different way than what we were used to. Sadly, this failed badly and left us with a sizeable £10,000 hole where hope once was. The ‘investment’ lost and all ties severed I can only think, ‘what an awful decision.’ Not enough due diligence, not enough background checks – wrong decision. However, we all learn from our mistakes, we move forward with hope and going back to what we excel at – providing the best solutions to any pneumatic related issue.

Bad Timings

After the fallout from our bad decision, John Nolan, our Sales Manager decided to retire at the end of September 2019. I worked with John at three consecutive companies, first employing him at Hoggs, the ill-fated Ecenomatics and then here at Airlane. His drive, support and friendship have been invaluable and he will be sorely missed. But, at a very young 69, almost 70, I think he deserves his retirement. He’s now driving his poor wife up the wall. 50 years married and then retired, she’s wishing him back to work. He’d be more than welcome.

To step into John’s sizeable boots, we took the plunge with Nick Duff, A keen and eager young man we hope, with the right support and guidance from us, will eventually eclipse John’s successes.

Bad Luck

Despite John and I having a fantastic final 12-18 months together, propelling the company to it’s most profitable year since we began trading, the bad decisions, bad timings and, in particular, the political unrest in the country has had a negative effect on us over the last 3 months. However, we look to 2020, a new decade, a new political will and a settled company again, with hope and clarity of purpose. We will always work to our strengths of highest technical ability backed with honesty and integrity. We will choose our trading partners on that same basis. 

We look forward to continuing to serve local industry, helping you to become safer, more productive and, ultimately, more profitable. Watch this space!
